Mirrors are everywhere. Spiders climb over them. My two biggest fears surround me. I’m alone. My screams echo into the dark abyss. My Body is on fire. I close my eyes in fear of seeing my reflection. Rider. Where’s Rider?
I start to gain consciousness in the back of a truck. Rider’s next to me. He’s hands stroke my head resting in his lap.
“R…Ri…Rider?” I say barely audible.
“Ivory?!?” Rider calls, quite loudly and nervously. “Ivee? You okay baby girl? Love, can you open your eyes? Ivee?!?! Please.” I can’t open my eyes or my mouth to speak. It’s like my mouth is taped. Rider is shaking my arm trying to wake me up. I feel his tears hit my cheek. “Ivory Allyson Latter, I love you. Please. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before but baby you need to wake up. For me.” I know I love you too Rider. Free me from this.
“Ri she’ll wake up soon. It was her time. We’re getting her out of here. Her parents know and they have the house ready in Boston.” The voice is familiar. Ellen Staresse, that new girl. I blink my eyes open. I start to scream. Rider flips a shit.
“Holy crap! Ivee are you okay?! What’s wrong? Love tell me what’s wrong!” He kisses my forehead.
“Ow! Shit. Rider. Fire. Fire. Buring!” I start to cry.
“Hug her or lay on top of her and kiss her! Rider listen to me, you have to do this NOW!” Ellen screams orders from the drivers seat. Rider lays me down and lays on top of me making the burning ease. He kisses me and it disappears. I can open my eyes.
“Rider.” I whisper in his ear. “I love you too,”
“You’re okay. Ivee your okay!” I start to hold my breath. “Babe what’s wrong?”
“I can’t see any color”
Rider looks me in the eyes, terrified. Ellen catches her breath. Tears form in my eyes.
I, Ivory Allyson Latter, am now colorblind.
